Quinceañeras often grow bigger than families expect. Grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, the court and their families, friends from school, and friends from church add up quickly. A guest list that starts at 120 can reach 250 before invitations go out.
Guest count is only part of the space question, though. A quinceañera needs more than seating. Here’s what to plan room for, and how that maps to the three event spaces at Fleur de Lis Event Center in Mandeville, convenient for families across the Northshore, from Covington and Madisonville to Slidell, and from the greater New Orleans area.
Plan Space for the Moments, Not Just the Tables
A typical dinner party needs tables and a buffet. A quinceañera also needs room for:
- The grand entrance. The quinceañera and her court need a clear path into the room, with space for guests to see and film it.
- The waltz and the surprise dance. These are performances, so the dance floor has to hold the court comfortably, with guests gathered around the edges watching.
- A head table or court table. This is often the focal point of the room and is set apart from guest tables.
- The cake and a photo backdrop. Families want photos of the cake, the dress, and the court, so these areas need open space around them.
- Dancing for everyone afterward. Once the formal moments end, the same floor has to handle a crowd of all ages.
A room that seats 200 guests but squeezes the dance floor will feel crowded during the moments that matter most.
Matching Your Guest Count to a Room
Jazz Ballroom, about 50–300 guests. Jazz has a fiber-optic star ceiling, exposed brick, two indoor fountains, and an open dance floor with the DJ booth upstairs. Its dedicated picture room and private New Orleans-style courtyard give the court and family places for photos away from the main room.
Pontchartrain Ballroom, about 100–500 guests. Pontchartrain is our largest space, with thousands of fiber-optic stars, real gas lighting, a large dance floor, and an illuminated architectural backdrop wall that serves as a strong setting for the cake and photos. Under roughly 250 guests, seating normally stays on the main floor. For larger events, the balcony seats nearly 100 more guests at regular tables and has its own upstairs bar. The balcony is also a good vantage point for watching the waltz.
Private Restaurant, up to about 100 guests. For a smaller celebration or a family dinner the night before, the Restaurant is a fully private space with its own entrance, restrooms, bar, front courtyard, and covered patio.
If your count falls where two ballrooms overlap, around 200 to 300 guests, choose based on the dance floor and the formal moments. A room that fits your seating but crowds the waltz is the wrong room.
Ceiling Height and Décor
Quinceañera décor often goes big, with floral walls, backdrops, and themed installations. Both ballrooms have ceilings of about 17 feet, which leaves room for tall pieces. Any ceiling or overhead installation needs to fit safely within the room’s height and be approved ahead of time.
Special Effects: What’s Allowed
Many families want a special effect during the waltz. Here’s what works at Fleur de Lis:
- Available with approval: a “dancing on clouds” dry-ice effect and cold-spark machines. Ask about current options and pricing.
- Allowed: balloon drops, as long as the balloons contain no confetti, and surprise performances.
- Not allowed: confetti and sparklers.
Guests of All Ages
Quinceañeras bring together young children, teenagers, and grandparents in the same room. A few details help:
- Bar service. All alcohol is served through Fleur de Lis. Bartenders check identification and can refuse service when appropriate. Uniformed security is required at events serving alcohol, and we coordinate it as part of your arrangements.
- Access for older guests. Our primary event spaces don’t require second-floor access. Upstairs areas, including the Pontchartrain balcony, are stairs-only, and there’s no elevator. Keep that in mind when seating grandparents.
- Parking. Free on-site parking for 175+ vehicles, plus adjoining overflow parking, so a large family doesn’t have to hunt for spaces.
- Comfort. The building is fully climate controlled, which matters for a ballgown in a Louisiana summer.
What to Bring to Your Tour
Come with an estimated guest count, your preferred date, the size of the court, and any special moments you’re planning, such as the waltz, a surprise dance, or a live band. Seeing the dance floor with your court’s size in mind makes the room decision much easier.
